Samuel Lees Redfern

1886 – 2nd August 1917. Loyal North Lancashire Regiment (5th Battalion)

Samuel Lees Redfern was a former Manchester FC player who died during the Great War. Originally from Hale, Redfern joined the Public Schools Battalion as soon as the war began. A year later, he was in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, commissioned as a lieutenant.

Redfern survived the Somme unscathed, and became an acting captain, but died of wounds on the 2nd August 1917.

Redfern is buried at Brandhoek New Military Cemetery, Grave IF5
